I agree with your thoughts, Cory. We definitely need to be obedient to the leading of the Lord in all of this. In this case, I think it was an issue of confusion. Someone commented after this weekend that the services “started on time” for once, and not early like they had been for the past several months. Apparently, whoever it was missed the memo that it was a time of preparation prior to the services. I like the new format, and we’ll see how it plays out.

I prefer longer song sets that don’t have many breaks… in my opinion, it makes it easier to get into the musical act of worship.

“What we found, however, was that it served to muddy the actual “start time” of our services, and people were actually showing up later, not earlier.”

This is such a tough issue for the people who are there on time who want to focus and worship who then get interrupted by the throngs of late people pushing through the chairs… and the leadership who work hard to create a modern worship environment where everything is supposed to tie together…

Finding the solution can be very difficult, and sometimes the only real answer is to let it be as the overall culture just isn’t fit for this kind of “on time” behavior when it comes to church…

So really, the only right thing to do is what God wants you to do, despite what the people want done.
